既然英语分为美式英语和英式英语，那么要学好或是用好英语就没理由不去学习它们的区分，其中很多单词的拼写和用法也有美式和英式之分，如之前的 practice 和 practise，dependent 和 dependant 等等，还有接下来的 among 和 amongst.
一、among 作介词，后面通常跟复数名词或名词短语
1、意为“在…中，周围是”，例如：
They strolled among the crowds.
他们在人群中信步而行。
I’m not worried about her. She’s living among friends.
我不担心她。她和朋友住在一起。
2、意为“…之一”，例如：
A British woman was among the survivors.
幸存者中有一位英国妇女。
He was among the last to leave.
他是最后离开者之一。
二、amongst 作介词，后面通常跟复数名词或名词短语
1、意为“在…之内”，表示范围，例如：
The results show that both girls are amongst the top 10% of students in the whole school.
结果显示，两个女孩的成绩都是全校前10%的学生。
2、意为“处在…中”，表示位置，例如：
The mare neighed once more, turned and disappeared amongst the trees.
母马又嘶鸣了一声，扭头消失在树林里。
三、两者的区别
在英式英语中 among 与 amongst 可以通用，但是在美式英语中 amongst 非常少见，只是在散文写作中偶尔用来增加复古风，且在美式英语的正式文档中，若使用 amongst，有的时候会被大多数人认为是错误的，所以保守起见，用 among 就对了。
